CALIFORNIA WEEKEND

This past October, I went with my mom to California to tour colleges. Before this trip I had been as far west as Memphis, so it felt like I was in a different country. We spent three days in the LA area, and two days in Malibu/ Calabasas area.

The first day in LA, my mom and I went shopping at the grove and on Melrose Ave; later that day we toured USC. USC was literally so pretty and cool. It was weird because it seemed just like a SCC school except in LA and a lot more competitive. Walking around Melrose Ave., we found the Colette Miller wings and one of the heart walls just randomly. At night we went to Nobu, a popular Japanese restaurant. My mom kept saying, "this is where the Kardashians eat!" I got the California roll, because when in California, and the seared scallops which were amazing.

For the next two days, my mom and I explored the Venice Beach area. If you're looking for cute California boutiques, Venice is where you want to go. Abbot Kinney Blvd. has so many cute shops and restaurants. My favorite was Principessa, a boutique that has a Free People x Revolve vibe, and the Butcher's Daughter is one of the most photogenic brunch restaurants ever with the best beach vibe.

After day three, we decided to rent a car and head up the coast. I definitely recommend not renting a car if your staying in the LA area because there is no parking and Uber is way easier and cheaper. First we drove through Malibu and walked around Pepperdine then we went into the mountains, up to the Calabasa/ Thousand Oaks area.

The mountains in that part of California are amazing. Sadly, that area was one of the parts to be affected by the wildfires. I ended up getting sick during this part of the trip and I had multiple college applications due the day I got back to Tennessee, so we spent one day relaxing at the hotel. Later that night we went to the outlet stores that were next to the hotel.

After resting and finishing my applications, we drove farther up the coast to Santa Barbara. That area is beautiful and super relaxed compared to LA which my mom loved. There is really good shopping in the downtown Santa Barbara area. We drove some more around that area, and then headed back to the hotel.

Our flight left late at night, so for our last day we did what every other blogger would have done: we went to Malibu Pier Cafe for lunch. The food was actually really good and aesthetic did not disappoint. If you ever go, I highly recommend the lemonade. I don't know why, but it just tasted so good.
