This Thanksgiving Break my mom took my friend and I to Italy. Rome and Venice were the two cities that we visited. It was crazy to actually be a city where the Romans walked. I loved the pebble stone streets in Rome, and all the beautiful canals in Venice, so I thought I'd share about my trip.
Italy became a destination because my brother, the ginger on the right, was doing a semester abroad in Rome with Northeastern University. My mom, on the left, my friend Lily, in the middle picture, and I all traveled to the Rome to visit him, and then we all caught the train to Venice., but let me tell you it was not easy.
One thing that I learned on this trip was always listen to your gut. Always. I learned this the hard way because about a month before we left I realized that my passport was going to expire in January, and I thought that there might be rule saying that your passport needs to be good for a few months past your trip, so I told my mom and she said that's not a thing, so I was like alright. When we got to the airport the computer wouldn't let me check in to get my ticket, and the lady told me it was because my passport was about to expire. I know what you're thinking. "Dang she's got that good luck." Well yea your right, this stuff always happens to me.
I straight up thought I was not going to be able to go, but the nice Delta lady said to go to this passport place in downtown Atlanta at the Department of Homeland security the next morning and I could fly out that night. So, twenty four hours later I had a new passport and an extra four hours to spend in the Atlanta airport, I know all the good spots there so hmu if you need something to do in that airport.
I finally got to Italy the next morning and took a taxi right to Rome to meet up with my friend, mom, and brother. After I dropped my bags off at the hotel we went right to site seeing. Our first stop was a taxi stand, but after realizing the taxis were on strike, classic Italy, we started walking towards the Colosseum, and found some cool spots on the way.
Throughout the next three days I ate more cannolis than ever imagined and caught up on my roman history which was limited to Caesar being stabbed. Shopping by the Spanish Steps was amazing, and the Trevi Fountain was even prettier in person than in "Eat, Prey, Love". One of the key parts of visiting Rome is going to the restaurants that aren't in the tourist areas; one of our favorite places to go for dinner was the Jewish Ghetto. The restaurants there are amazing and true Italian food.
Our next stop was Venice, Italy (a train ride away from Rome)
For the first two days we shopped, eat, and walked around all of Venice. Everywhere you look there's beautiful canals, and houses. After the first two days, we took the ferry out to the island of Murano where the famous glass jewelry is from.
